pitaya smoothie bowl

NATURALLY SWEET, NATURALLY COLOURED.

If you haven’t yet discovered the wonders of pitaya (AKA dragon fruit) this is a perfect way to start. Pitaya is a gorgeous pink cactus fruit that on the inside is either white or a deep and vibrant fuchsia that makes this smoothie bowl explode with hot pink tropical colour.

Isn’t nature amazing? We get this all natural, additive free, fruitalicious pigment from a cactus! Red pitaya will not only brighten your day, this exotic fruit is also gut-loving and bursting with immune boosting antioxidants, magnesium and vitamin B to keep you young and healthy inside and out.

Lucky for us, we don’t have to travel to Asia to enjoy the benefits. We don’t even need to peel or chop. Ready to use, peeled and chopped, pitaya pieces are available in the freezer section of most supermarkets. If you can’t find them, ask at your Asian grocers.

Despite the impressive colour, pitaya (red or white) isn’t full of flavour. To give it a sweet boost we’ve added some more common, equally gut-nurturing and nutritious tropical favourites; banana, pineapple and coconut. We used homemade coconut yogurt for the bonus beneficial bacteria, but canned coconut milk or fresh coconut flesh will taste awesome too.

Pitaya smoothie bowl makes the perfect quick-and-easy breakfast, afternoon snack, or healthy summer dessert. Enjoy it as is, or top it with your favourite fruit, nuts and seeds for a complete and delicious meal. With your fruit prepared (peeled and chopped) ready to grab from the freezer, with the Vibe Blender System this creamy superfood smoothie bowl can be served in minutes.

SECRETS TO A THE ULTIMATE SMOOTHIE BOWL CONSISTENCY.

The perfect consistency is somewhere between a drinkable smoothie and scoopable ice cream.

  1. Frozen bananas are the perfect, creamy, sweet base for a smoothie bowl, so make sure you have your freezer stocked.
  2. Use only just enough liquid or soft (unfrozen) fruit to help circulate the fruit into the blades.
  3. Insert the ‘tamper’ into the lid of your Luvele Vibe Blender to help gently guide the frozen fruit chunks down into the blades.
  4. Set your blender to a medium speed and don’t over blend. The Luvele highspeed motor and blades will generate heat and begin to thaw out your frozen fruit.

    NICE CREAM TIP

You can even blend the ingredients an hour ahead of time and serve it as ‘nicecream’. Simply scoop the mixture from the blender jug into a freezer-safe container and pop in your freezer. Don’t let it freeze solid though - it is impossible to scoop out if left in the freezer too long.

MAKES:  1 x bowl – multiply the ingredients for additional bowls.
